Get Ready For Oakland's Eat Real Fest

Now that Oakland's biggest festival of all things food, drink and DIY is in its fourth year, most food-conscious types know that Eat Real Fest is a big deal. Proof positive: 150,000 enthusiasts are expected to attend this weekend, starting at 1 pm on Friday and going until the last keg is drained on Sunday at 5 pm. Admission is free, but bring cash for all the vendors, and invest in a pair of elastic waistband pants for maximum benefits.  Here now, our guide to the madness.

Hipline Fitness & Belly Dance: Fight Club For Women

There is a place in Berkeley where women congregate and dance their asses off. What began as a belly dancing studio three years ago, is now a thumping, sweating, smiling mecca for women who want to let loose and get down. Hipline takes the fear out of exercise and puts the fun back in. Weekend classes book a week in advance, evening classes are illuminated by a disco ball and glow jewelry and Shimmy Pop Ninjas teach their hearts out.

Holiday Brews on Tap at California's Best Beer Bar

On Friday and Saturday, December 16 & 17, The Trappist in Oakland will be hosting their version of the Kerstbier Fest. The event is billed as offering the best assortment of Christmas beers outside of Belgium.

Scenes of the City: the Bay Bridge's Final Piece

Last Friday, the final piece of the new Bay Bridge was laid (it weighed two million pounds). It marks the completion of the largest structure of its kind anywhere in the world. The new Bay Bridge is scheduled to open in 2013, so don't start revving your engines just yet.
