Outside Lands 2012
If you thought the party would slow down on Sunday in preparation for the upcoming week, you were dead wrong. Outside Lands continued in a fervor with an abundance of food, wine overflowing, and the foggy weather brought in an array of odd hats. Mark your calendar for next year's Outside Lands 2013!
We motion to make Outside Lands a quarterly affair.
Occasions that bring so many people together just don’t happen often enough. Make it happen, o Gods of OutsideLandia. The 2012 installment of the festival was another extraordinary success, the latest local triumph of creativity and logistical savvy.
Day 3 was an appropriate exclamation point on the annual three-day gathering of all things cultural, with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Jack White, Skrillex, Regina Spektor, and Franz Ferdinand serenading San Francisco. Here’s how it all went down:
Just because this year's Outside Lands was plagued by fog and mist doesn't mean it was gloomy. Not for even one second. The city's biggest music party dominated Golden Gate Park this weekend, as you may have heard.
Check out photos of Saturday's Outside Lands. Craziness, arrests, drinking, huge doses of music and, of course, the beautiful Golden Gate Park scenery.
The second day of Outside Lands was another exercise in perseverance, made easier by a wonderfully eclectic slate of music from around the world. Metallica, Sigur Ros, Passion Pit, Big Boi, Alabama Shakes and more highlighted the Day 2 action, and there were plenty more who helped festivalgoers fight another day of wintry conditions at the Polo Fields of Golden Gate Park.

Tame impala rewards the patient; psych-y, effect-packed jams start out slow and build in unexpected ways. The Beatles and Black Sabbath are the first comparisons that come to mind, but this Aussie outfit seems more out of time and place than a throwback to any specific era. In a word: groovy.
Check out some shots of Friday at Outside Lands, lots of dancing, smiles, foggy and chilly weather, and good times were had. Check back tomorrow morning for more pics from today.
Music festivals are all about surviving the elements with an unwavering, stupid smile. Coachella has its stinging heat, Bonnaroo has its mud and stench, Burning Man has its omnipresent dust. Outside Lands is no different; here at the Polo Grounds of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, we have an annual date with Ocean Beach’s non-summer. And we disregard it.
But enough about the weather. The music still matters most.
White Denim, 12:05, Sutro Stage
Outside Lands is back this year with a wicked lineup of some great DJs. If you're headed out to Golden Gate Park this weekend, just remember to keep your ears peeled for these seven heavy hitters behind the decks.
