When it comes to festivals, we like to think you can never be too prepared.
But even after buying tickets months in advance, making a minute-by-minute show schedule and narrowing down which of the million delicious food vendors you'll be waiting in line for, you still have no clue what you're going to wear.
Well, dear readers, that's where we come in.
It's supposedly the coldest San Francisco summer in almost 40 years. That means you can pretty much bet that Outside Lands is going to be one foggy, cold music celebration. While you can warm yourself with the festival's galaxy of food and wine offerings, shivering to Al Green classics under four layers of clothing isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Food+Wine: TasteTV Taste-Off
You be the judge. Be amongst the 100-plus people at Press Club this Wednesday for TasteTV's first annual Wine and Food Pairing Taste-Off. You'll sample six combinations of seasonal plates with four reds and two whites. Let your opinion be known so that Press Club can determine the best pairing to add to their lounge menu and smile pretty. You might just be on camera. $45; Wednesday, 8/11; Press Club, 20 Yerba Buena Lane, 415-744-5000, tastetv.com
This weekend's Outside Lands lineup has suffered mixed reviews, many bemoaning the lack of standout headliners. Um, obviously they didn't take a look at the list of food vendors. Serious SF food star power! Let's Be Frank, Namu, Yats, Pica Pica Maize Kitchen! But since the festival is all about the, uh, the music, we decided to pair food and bands for the ultimate GG Park experience. Here's what we really think would bring out the flavors this weekend's musical acts.
No ticket to Outside Lands? No problem, because there's an almost cooler event going down the same weekend: the American Craft Council show at Fort Mason. It's a celebration of all things handmade and one-of-a-kind, and there's so much to take in, there's no possible way you could do it all in one day.
The main attraction is the showcase of talented up-and-coming artists from around the country who excel in making uncommon creations, like upcycled jewelry made from LEGOs to "trashion" pieced together from weird materials like fish skin and fruit bags.
We just got off an Outside Lands press conference call with Kings of Leon singer Nathan Followill, Eugene Hutz of Gogol Bordello and Scott Youklis, head chef at Maverick. They're just excited as we are to eat our hearts out and listen to the good tunes coming our way August 14th and 15th.
As we near the real summer months in San Francisco and people stop hiding from the fog, my social calendar gets particularly crowded. And it's not all about Outside Lands or the World's Ugliest Dog Contest. The local arts scene is heating up too, so we've put the best on our radar for you choose fill your own sunnier days:
Although it's lights off at lala today (which we're bemoaning over here at 7x7 HQ), June 1st also brings some good music news in the form of the final Outside Lands lineup. Ranger Dave continues his love affair with videos by announcing the entire Aug 14-15 lineup in video format. For those without the patience to watch the whole montage, here's the lineup in list form.
