This is our weekly guest-blog post from the moms behind Red Tricycle, a site that focuses on the "lighter side" of parenting. Every week, they'll be bringing us their picks of stuff to do around the Bay Area with kids.
Rock out with your kids! What better way is there to share your love of music than to take your children to a concert? But you better have your tickets because the concert billed as Coachella West is selling out fast. Here are some insider tips on how to get there and what to bring so you and your family can have the most fun!
With Phish, Muse, The Black Keys and Arcade Fire anchoring, this year's Outside Lands Festival (August 12-14) is sure to satisfy all music tastes. Want to know what will make the festival experience even more awesome? Luxe bathrooms without lines. They're a perk of a VIP ticket, along with special viewing areas for the Lands End and Twin Peaks Stages, access to VIP food concession and drink areas and lounge seating in the Polo Club with shade and massage services. VIP tickets for the weekend are $450, but we're giving away a pair of tickets ($900 value) to a reader who signs up for our newsletter within the next two weeks.
Now that it's officially summer, heading out of town sounds better than ever. Pack your car with picnic blankets and grab a spot in the shade for The Outside Lands' summer concert series, which heads up to Napa Valley July 9th for a soulful countryside show by Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers at Long Meadow Ranch Winery and Farmstead.
Our July cover artist, Wendy McNaughton, is showing more of her hand drawn creations this month at Shoebiz's Haight Street store. The opening reception was last night, but Shoebiz is celebrating McNaughton's art and Outside Lands all weekend with DJs and discounts, so drop by and check it all out!
When it comes to festivals, we like to think you can never be too prepared.
But even after buying tickets months in advance, making a minute-by-minute show schedule and narrowing down which of the million delicious food vendors you'll be waiting in line for, you still have no clue what you're going to wear.
Well, dear readers, that's where we come in.
It's supposedly the coldest San Francisco summer in almost 40 years. That means you can pretty much bet that Outside Lands is going to be one foggy, cold music celebration. While you can warm yourself with the festival's galaxy of food and wine offerings, shivering to Al Green classics under four layers of clothing isn't everyone's cup of tea.
