Win Tickets to the Casiokids Tomorrow Night @ Cafe Du Nord

Casiokids have been rocking Norway for 5 years with their sunny, casio-driven, electro-pop, but Norway couldn’t keep the band all to themselves forever. Their latest release, Topp Stemning På Lokal Bar on Polyvinyl Records, is the group’s US debut, launching their buzz from across the pond into the states. Despite their geographic distance, they manage to find themselves stateside quite a bit. They rocked SXSW and CMJ and now they’re back again on their very own mini headlining tour. Casiokids are known for their theatrical live shows and they’ll be hitting San Francisco’s Cafe Du Nord on August 18th.

Two Gallants’ Tyson Vogul Debuts Devotionals Today

Tyson Vogul of Two Gallants joins forces with Anton Patzner (Judgment Day, Bright Eyes) for the Devotionals project and we’re all better for it. Vogul’s folks-y, backwoods compositions drenched in deep thoughts and whiskey are the perfect companion to Patzner’s violin prowess. Download “Chest Like Expansive Wings” for free and by all means, buy the new self-titled album!

Win Tix to the Dodos and the New Pornographers @ the Fox

The New Pornographers (on tour promoting their new album) and the Dodos  take the stage at the Fox Theater this Sunday in what might be the best 1-2 combo since the xx and Hot Chip played there back in April.

Birds & Batteries Fireworks Extravaganza

If you missed your local fireworks display this past Fourth, experimental synth pop band Birds & Batteries have your back. And the good thing, you’ll get the explosions without the brain battering sonic booms.

Port O'Brien:

Personal tragedy struck this indie Americana/freak-folk band from Oakland midway through recording their third album Threadbare (drops 10/6). On "My Will is Good" a rolling drumbeat, eerie echos and whispers, and stirring strings set the stage for a haunting and introspective sound.
