Every year, as the holidays approach, we take some time to acknowledge the many local nonprofits that bestow varied gifts upon our community. Now in it's sixth year, San Francisco's Favorite Charity Contest, presented by PG&E and 7x7, asks you, our readers, to tell us which Bay Area do-gooders make this a better place to live. From human rights activists to environmental crusaders, we want to hear about the people and organizations you believe are making an impact. What are you waiting for? Get nominating!
On February 11, LGBT leader Mark Rhoades and sponsor PG&E hosted a sweet and sexy affair in the heart of the Castro to benefit the GLBT Historical Society, which houses and preserves gay and lesbian history right here in San Francisco. More than 300 singles mixed and mingled at Trigger, enjoying cocktails with Ketel One vodka and Don Julio tequila, Stella Artois beer, and desserts by Scala's Bistro.
On June 24, LGBT leaders Mark Rhoades and Brandon Hernandez hosted an amazing Pride 2010 kick-off event at the Clift Hotel's stylish Redwood Room and Velvet Room! The event not only benefited New Leaf Services, but also served as a "thank you" to the many men and women who give their time and resources to the LGBT community all year long. Attendees were a veritable roll call of San Francisco's LGBT leaders, and participating sponsors included Ketel One, Don Julio, Stella Artois, Epi Center MedSpa, Al Smyth events, and Blueprint Studios.
