Hungry for change? Tim Lincecum is. That’s why he teamed up with popchips to “chip in” for charity. As a part of the popchips game changers program, fans were encouraged to submit ideas on how Tim could give back to the San Francisco community. After nominations were submitted, the community voted on the local causes and event ideas that they wanted to see popchips and Tim Lincecum bring to life. The top 5 ideas were shared with Tim and the cause that hit a home run, was the Muttville Senior Dog Rescue program.

It’s almost opening day at AT&T Park, and Tim Lincecum is stepping up to the plate, err should we say bowl. As you may have seen, our friends over at popchips have teamed up with Lincecum to “chip in” to charity by asking SF  fans how they want to see Tim volunteer in the community.

Our sister magazine SPIN and popchips have teamed up to support local bands through an initiative called popup live, a fan-driven competition designed to expose new music. Beginning this morning, they've published over 250 free tracks from bands in five cities (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle and San Francisco) that popchips and Spin think are poised to hit the big time. Check out which bands made the San Francisco cut on popchips' SF facebook page, and vote for your favorite tracks.

Every single download counts as a vote for that band, and on September 12th, the four bands with the most downloads from each city will advance to the semi-finals and win $500 cash prize as well as a "pop up live kit" to help them create their own unique pop up live concert. So cast your vote for the local band you think is going to be the next big thing!

And for this week's popchips pop culture pop quiz we're paying homage to Bay Area-bred bands who have made it big time. (Every week this summer we're testing your local knowledge with SF Pop Culture Pop Quizzes. Here's this week's question:

In 2009, the Beastie Boys cancelled their Outside Lands performance last minute (the group decided to put its focus on Adam "MCA" Yaunch's recovery from cancer rather than touring). Who replaced them on the lineup? And which artist (who also performed at Outside Lands that year) expressed disappointment (an understatement) about the switch via Twitter?
