If you’re traveling by plane this holiday season, SFO’s Terminal 2 has a rockin’ new exhibit worth checking out. As you head to your gate (or deal with crazy flight delays), snag a glimpse of "Revolutions per Minute: The Evolution of the Record” and “The Art of the Album Cover.”
From the confines of our bubble, it’s easy to forget there’s a big, wide world out there. All it takes is one weekend, one step onto a plane at SFO, and one step off into a completely different land. Need inspiration? We present to you – Direct Flight.
Destination: New Orleans
Time In-Flight: 3.5 hours
Ticket Cost (round-trip): $450+
WIRED magazine once called Virgin America planes "multi-million dollar iPods that fly" -- a comparison that's even more appropriate now that the hometown airline of Apple-lovin' San Francisco has moved into SFO's Terminal 2. Virgin America will occupy seven gates at T2 (which has its opening ceremony this weekend) and collaborated closely with Gensler and Turner Construction on the design and concept from the early stages. Virgin America's always been a cut above the rest in tech-friendliness, sustainable practices (their planes are 25% more fuel efficient than others in the sky) and food services, experiences they have extended from plane to terminal in the new T2. Here are 7 Very Virgin America Reasons to Love SFO's Terminal 2.
Hanging out at the airport when there's no travel involved may sound like a curious weekend activity, but SFO's Terminal 2 Open House this Saturday does have some obvious perks. Namely, there's a ticket giveaway involved to any continental-US Virgin America destination. To win, you'll have to play SFO's twitter "Photo Safari" game at the Opening Ceremony. Here's how to play:
1. RSVP to the SFO Terminal 2 Community Open House (12-5 pm this Saturday)
2. Follow the official SFO Twitter feed, @flySFO.
Next time you're stuck at San Francisco airport trying to kill time before your flight, consider hitting the slots. No, the airport has not morphed into a full-fledged casino, but it has introduced an exhibit, For Amusement Only: Slot Machines and Other Gambling Devices of the Mechanical Age, that illustrates the technological and artistic innovations of mechanical gambling machines.
