Local Brewers Team Up For a Slow Beer Festival

If you're a beer fan who couldn't snag tickets to this Saturday's sold-out SF International Beer Festival, you might be feeling down about missing out on all the beer and fun. But never fear: the SF Brewers' Guild has launched another awesome beer event on the same exact day to catch the overflow of interest from the SFIBF. Slow Beer, a collaboration with Slow Food San Francisco, will feature over 25 handcrafted brews from Guild members like Anchor, ThirstyBear, Southern Pacific Brewing, Magnolia, 21st Amendment, Beach Chalet, and Speakeasy.

Order Your (Heritage) Turkey Now

A few weeks ago I went to Traci Des Jardins' Acme Chophouse to taste the season's best sustainable meat and game in preparation for the holidays. Traci and executive chef Thom Fox were joined by the owners of Sonoma Country Poultry and Marin Sun Farms to talk about their turkeys, duck, geese, cows, goats, lambs, pigs and chickens. Bottom line: "The better the animals are treated, the better the meat tastes," according to Marin Sun Farms' Judie Geise.

Neko Case's Slow Food on the Road

San Francisco hits a nostalgic chord for the New Pornographers. The Mission’s Aquarius Records was all about promoting the band in their fledgling days, which led to some of their first sold-out shows at the Great American Music Hall and the Warfield. Now they’re returning to the city where they really took off to play Slow Food Rocks, the music festival component of Slow Food Nation.
