In case you haven’t heard, The City’s newly arrived pop-culture attraction New People opened over the weekend in Japantown to hoards of Harajuku lovers, anime fans and film-goers. The 20,000-square-foot complex complete with a movie theater, art gallery, café and retail shops showcasing Japanese street fashion brands is three stories of wall-to-wall eye candy (seriously, even the walls in the stairwells are worth peeking at).
We popped in yesterday for a look. Our favorite floor? Fashion-driven level 2, of course. Here are five things we loved:
1. The intriguingly coquettish pastel-hued lace parasols at Baby, The Stars Shine Bright.
Whether or not you’re in the market for a $25,000 pair of diamond-encrusted gold sunglasses, who doesn’t want to see such a thing – especially if there are only five pairs on the planet (Princess Caroline of Monaco owns a pair) and one debuts in San Francisco tomorrow night?
Now all you Berkeley kids have another place to find inexpensive home furnishings, without having to schlep across the bridge for them. CB2 will be opening its second Bay Area store at 1730 4th St. this January the 29th. Expect to see oldies but goodies (like the phantom lamp) and new styles for 2009 (including the teepee dining table and spindle chair, both of which j'adore very much).
