Wellness Amongst The Wilderness at Tahoe's Wellness Weekend, October 21-23

Tahoe is intrinsically relaxing: mountain air, lake views, mellow townies, and countless activities to satiate an athletic appetite. Whether an avid skier or river floater, most people leave Tahoe with an overall feeling of greatness. Tahoe is also an ideal retreat for gaining wellness while lapping in luxury. The 4th annual Lake Tahoe Wellness Weekend at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa & Casino offers an all-inclusive two days packed with fitness and healthy living classes and seminars at an alpine oasis.

Tahoe For Kids (or Fraidy Cats)

The typical Tahoe weekend plan goes like this: Scramble to get as much work done by noon on Friday as is humanly possible, then load up the car, cross the Bay Bridge, and pray you'll make it to Truckee in less than six hours. If there's snow, chains, or an accident anywhere along the route, settle in for the long haul. Spend Saturday skiing and drinking, wake up Sunday with an altitude-hangover headache, and reverse the trek on Sunday.

But what if you've got kids in tow—and not the kind of superhuman toddlers who can whiz down a blue slope in their baby skis at 30 mph, but regular, old-school carpet crawlers who just want some snow angels and sleds?

Tips, Deals and Insider Advice for Squaw, Alpine and Northstar

Squaw Valley
This North Tahoe resort is nicknamed Squallywood for a reason: Many ski films have been shot here, and the place has a bustling, party vibe. In November, the resort was sold to a private equity firm that plans to invest $50 million in on-site improvements, so expect the glam level to increase. 800-403-0206.

Inspiring Activewear, Athleta Opens New Shop in Pacific Heights

San Francisco women are smart, chic and active. For clothing that can handle our on-the-go lifestyles, Athleta just might be the answer.

Three for the Road: The Ultimate Stop for Tahoe-Bound Foodies

Though I’m not knocking a good double cheeseburger, if you’re headed up to Tahoe for a snowy three-day getaway, there’s better eating to be done along the way than at the In-n-Out in Auburn. In fact, if you stop in Sacramento—which is just about halfway there—you have some great options just five minutes off the freeway in the historical neighborhood of Land Park.

Here, are very trustworthy options, all within walking distance of each other.

Get Thee to Wanderlust

Don't write this off as a hokey hippie retreat—last year's inaugural Wanderlust Music and Yoga Festival was hands-down the coolest summer music experience in Northern California. Starting today, you can downward dog to your heart's content, learn firsthand what acroyoga is all about and get a grand dose of music in the great outdoors.

Night Ski in Tahoe for Valentine's Day

It's President's Day: Tahoe's second busiest ski weekend. And conditions on the hill are poised to be shredtastic. Recent storms and a few mid week dustings have kept the groom crews busy the past couple days. That means your favorite trails and lifts will be open and well maintained. Sunny skies, calm winds and temps in the 40's will set you up for outside lunching and pit stops, which is always a win.

Tahoe Weekend Game Plan

Escaping to Tahoe this weekend for a little Super Bowl and ski action? Here's your game plan.

Can you ski down a steeper grade than your 401(k) is vertically dropping?

With 6 new feet of snow having just landed in Tahoe, last weekend looked, in the words of one first grader, just like the landscape from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.  There’s more than enough new snowfall to bury a vertical first grader - and more on the way. And they’ll be a blizzard of savings for 7x7 Readers.

Last weekend marked the opening ceremonies for the 28th Annual Snowfest:"The Mountain Mardi Gras," which runs through Sunday, March 8 and includes all kinds of fun snow pursuits: think snow-themed parades, races, polar bear swims and snow sculpture contests.

A Winter Wonderland

President's Day weekend travelers were rewarded for all the hard effort it took to actually reach Tahoe--a seven-hour drive from the city, if you were lucky--by the biggest snowfall of the season. And it just keeps getting better for ski junkies and snow bunnies alike. Northstar-at-Tahoe, for example, has accummulated 59 inches of powder in the last week alone, with the promise of more in coming tonight, as a winter storm lingers over the Sierras.
