tour de fat
All summer long the Levi's Mobile Bike Shop has been parading around the country, stopping in select cities to set up a pop-up bike carnival, in celebration of the Commuter Series by Levi's (available at Urban Outfitters). The crew has traveled a long way from NYC, but they're finally here -- the hometown celebration starts this afternoon at Levis HQ.
We posted a few weeks ago about Tour de Fat and the Car-for-Bike Trade. Find out who won this Saturday at Tour de Fat in Golden Gate Park! The day begins at 11am with a bike parade (registration at 10a, see bottom of page for pre-registration) and performances at Speedway start at noon. This year's lineup includes March Fourth Marching Band and Sean Hayes, along with cabaret and circus performances. Celebrate the Car-for-Bike Trade winner's switch to two wheels beginning with a funeral procession at 2:30 and the official ceremony at 4:30. And of course, since the event is sponsored by New Belgium Brewing, spend your afternoon drinking tasty beers (and far more than just Fat Tire). The event is family friendly but be sure to bring ID to drink and cash for beer tokens. Curtain closes at 5pm. If the weather people are right, it should be a beautiful afternoon.
With the success of Zip Car and big changes to SF streets in the pipeline, now is a better time than ever to trade in your car for something without monthly payments and parking challenges: a bicycle! Every year, New Belgium brings their traveling music, beer, and bike festival, Tour de Fat, to Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park (this year's party is Saturday, September 26). For every city on the summer tour, New Belgium selects one aspiring carless citizen to exchange the keys to their car for a new bicycle in an on-stage ceremony at the event. And if you're the San Franciscan chosen, the lucky carless citizen will be you!
