Trend Watch: Leather

As the temperature drops in the Bay Area, we’re spotting this classic material—from cropped bomber jackets and fitted blazers to wide belts and knee-high boots—on locals in the city looking to stay stylishly warm.

Socks in the City

Here at 7x7, we’ve noticed a subtle yet daring trend has emerged onto the runways, into the streets and onto the feet of fashionable ladies everywhere: socks worn with heels

To the surprise of many, this look isn’t as new as it seems.  Besides the fact that it was the norm for American housewives and teenage girls in the ’40s, pairing thigh-baring hosiery with heels has been popular amongst Harajuku girls in Japan for years.  In recent seasons, the trend has been spotted all over the runways of such designers as Miu Miu, Wunderkind and Peter Jensen.

Fall Coat Trends: Bright, Bulky and Belted

We all live with our fair share of regrets. For some, it's picking the wrong major in college, sticking out a rocky relationship, or eating last night's bad sushi. My regret? Waiting until mid-October last season, when it was really cold outside, to look for a new coat. The chill is the only consistent thing about San Francisco weather, and so I assumed that  stores were bound to keep an array of key outerwear pieces in stock year round. Wrong! Instead, I went through the fall and winter months desperately sorting through picked over, not-my-size overcoats, never satisfied and eventually going without that much-needed update to my wardrobe.

Shoe Shopping with Adam Moon

Yesterday I had the chance to sit down with Adam Moon, fashion director for women’s accessories at Macy’s, who dished on everything from his obsession with white Converse sneakers to his airline travel must-reads (US Weekly, People, anyone?). I was interviewing the Noe Valley resident for our annual Style Council feature (look out for him and seven other local style makers profiled in our September fashion issue), and as an added bonus the two of us took a stroll afterward through the department store’s massive women’s shoe floor so he could give me the first-hand scoop on the must-have styles for fall.

7 Minutes with: Anyi Lu

As a former competitive ballroom dancer and a mom, shoe designer Anyi Lu knows firsthand a woman’s need for “sensible shoes.” But the Tiburon-based footwear designer has made it her mission to create a namesake line that doesn’t sacrifice style for comfort. The 34-year-old Tiburon resident, who also happens to hold a degree in chemical engineering, is best known for her gorgeous yet practical flats and heels. For Lu’s upcoming fall collection, look out for her array of menswear-inspired styles in quilted suede, lace-up booties and silver buckles, oh my!

Trendwatch: Boho Chic is Back

There’s nothing more quintessentially summer than the effortlessness of boho chic. Whether it’s weightless chiffon, a floppy Anita Pallenberg-esque chapeau or a thigh-grazing minidress here’s a few inspirational items to help you get this summer-ready look.

The Chiffon Maxi-dress

Perfect for a rooftop soiree, or a daytime event, this floor-sweeping gown is dramatic yet light and airy, giving off a polished yet relaxed vibe that’s perfectly translatable to SF.

Gilt Groupe

I heart SF. But I’ll be the first to admit I’ve always been a little jealous of New Yorkers with their easy access to sample sales. Where else can you stumble upon an unmarked storefront packed with discounted designer goods en route to a post-work happy hour on pretty much any given day?

Summer Color Trend: Fuchsia

Sunny skies call for shedding your basic black. We’re seeing this “it” color all over the city—from patent leather peep toes to bow bedecked jackets.

Adam Lippes, one half of now-defunct Adam + Eve, has launched his own line, Adam. We love this button-down silk dress in dip-dyed ombre that’s the perfect easy summer dress—wear it loose or give it shape by cinching the smock waist tie. $464; Romi Boutique, 2512 Sacramento St., 415-922-7664

Hats Off!

Famed SF hat makers, Goorin Brothers, are at it again. Hitting shelves for spring is the latest iteration of their 1333 Minna collection, designed this season by the well-known street artisans from the Seventh Letter Crew of Mad Society Kings. We loved the cool, original artwork that dresses up these basic men’s styles. Here, our top picks:
