Wine and River Rafting in Truckee

rafting

When asked to join a Truckee rafting trip with Tahoe's Irie Rafting Company in June, I conjured up fond memories of floating lazily  down the river in an inner tube with PBR in hand. Little did I know that I had signed myself up for a white water rafting adventure instead.

Tahoe's Northstar Changes Its Name

Goodbye Tahoe. Hello California.

That’s the track Northstar resort is taking after the recent decision to make an adjustment to its moniker.

“There was a massive line of debate on whether we should make the change,” said Bill Rock, the resort’s chief operating officer. “But (the change) is a statement of where the brand is going.”

So, instead of going to Northstar-at-Tahoe, a popular Truckee-area destination for San Francisco snowsports enthusiasts since its opening in 1972, skiers and snowboarders will now be making tracks at Northstar California (that little star logo seen around the resort has been tweaked a bit as well).

Forget Driving, Take the Polar Express to Tahoe

While the road-snack offerings on the way to Tahoe are some of the best around (Ikeda's and In-n-Out, I'm looking at you), sometimes the whole traffic, ice, and chains situation tips the scales into the "not worth it" zone.  Such was the case over New Years, which is why I opted to venture up there by train.
