valentine's day gifts
Valentine's Day is approaching whether you like it or not. And while you can never go wrong with flowers, chocolates, and lingerie, we have a couple slightly more unique ideas that are sure to get the romance started next weekend.
When it comes to local menswear, Unionmade Goods is pretty much aces. Their collection is always so varied, yet tightly curated, and huge. That said, it was particularly difficult narrowing down this list to a mere seven, but I will say my single favorite item from the current collection is definitely Alden of San Francisco's beatifully lush dark suede chukkas (#1) -- and this is coming from a not-huge-chukka-fan. The double zip wallet from Japanese retailer, Beams+ (#6), is another a fantastic design that will slip easily into your front or back pocket, and would be a killer accessory for women, too. In fact, ladies, if you're looking for a Valentine's gift, make Unionmade your go-to and, while you're there, don't overlook picking up something for yourself at this fine (menswear) establishment.
This year, skip the flowers and box chocolates and, instead, step it up with a thoughtful gift that's perfect for her. We pulled from SF's best and found hip, fun Valentine's Day gifts for every personality.
Gender, schmender. Bucking the trend of super-girlie and uber-dude gift lists that pop up everywhere this time of year, here are seven Valentine’s Day gifts that are as good for the guys as they are for the girls.
We promise this will be our last Valentine's Day-related post for the year, in case you're feeling the love. But we have to pass along this tidbit of information for anyone who just realized their significant other actually does want a gift, despite what he or she says. Take them down to the Curiosity Shoppe today or tomorrow and you can pick up a gorgeous bouquet by pro Megan Dempsey from Letter Paper Flower.
Though Valentines Day is well under a week away, thanks to a little thing called procrastination we're still on the hunt for gifts that will wow while leaving our wallets relatively intact. And whether you have a love or hate relationship with the Hallmark holiday, we're pretty sure you'll find something your special someone (or you) can't live without:
1. Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland Palette, $52: Every daydreaming dame will swoon over this Alice-inspired Book of Shadows.
They say a good man is hard to find. But here’s the silver lining on that theory: once discovered, a good guy is usually pretty easy to keep happy. To keep those happy guy vibes flowing this Valentine’s Day, we offer up a surefire gift-giving strategy for pleasing dudes: just give him something he can wear anywhere that can’t be found everywhere. Three examples:
The fallback gift for Valentine's Day is usually to say it with flowers, but this year why not say it with a potted planted? It's the gift that keeps giving, seeing as it won't be tossed out in a week, and with the big sale going on over at Flora Grubb this month, it's a cost-effective choice too. Get 25% off on all garden plants that are 2 gallons or larger, and 25% off most garden furniture and accessories. We're particularly fond of their stock tanks (shown here) which would work perfectly as a little garden container for the urban green thumb you adore.
In case you haven't seen the Valentine's Day decorations already up at countless gift stores across the city, know this: it's coming. Was that a Bah Humbug? You're way off on holidays, but just the same, why not share this little treat with yourself or someone you like (but you know, not like like) to get in the spirit? It's only 25 bucks, and available online from local talent Lisa Congdon. And to get you pumped even further for the number one Hallmark holiday (ever heard of Sweetest Day?
