Vampire Weekend

Show Review: Vampire Weekend at The Fox

You know the age old story. Band garners success, "sells out," goes "mainstream," collects a following of teenage worshippers from MTV, loses credibility, and throws creativity out the window, etc. Well, we say screw that. Those dinosaur-aged ideas have long expired. Case and point, Vampire Weekend. It's always delightful when a hugely hyped band not only meets, but exceeds our expectations. Not really expecting much more than what Contra offers, we weren't looking for musical genius, but boy did we get some.

NSSN: Scene of Action Wins the Local Spot

Not So Silent Night is pulling out all the stops this year, appealing to every kind of listener they have. Besides the Soundcheck Holiday Ball happening at Bimbo's 365 tonight, we're most excited about tomorrow's (12/10) Pre-Party at Mezzanine featuring sets from Gossip and Passion Pit, both of which we've been huge fans as of late. Unfortunately, as of writing, every one of Live 105's various Not So Silent Night events are completely sold out.

Listen Up - A Huge Week In Music: Birds & Batteries, Pixies, Tempo No Tempo and Many More

From old nostalgic favorites to up-and-coming locals brandishing fresh material, and famous singers fronting other collectives, all we know is that by the end of this week our wallets will be drowning in emptiness and we'll need at least another week to recover. You know that old saying, "You can sleep when you're dead?" We'll be utilizing this theme to power through this thoroughly heargasmic week ahead of us.

Live 105's Pre-Not So Silent Night Party with Vampire Weekend

Mezzanine hosted Live 105's sold out Pre-NSSN party for city-dwelling kids to revel in this year's buzz bands and local favorites.

From the opener, "Turn Me Off," the Audrye Sessions continuously blended arresting rock, Ryan Karazija's vocal range, and a welcome hint of 90s style.

Brooklyn-based Chairlift broke away to deliver the bouncy "Bruises," already featured in an iPod commercial. Their atmospheric, 80s thing takes on ominous and cute.
