I'm on my way to New York right now. How I love Virgin America's new SFO terminal. Breakfast pizzas, Acme bread, Cowgirl Creamery cheeses, decent down-tempo music that follows you wherever you go! It's like a frequent foodie flyer paradise.
We were lucky enough to be invited on the Virgin America's maiden air voyage to Puerto Vallarta this past weekend, and we can safely say that PV is poised to become one of the friendliest, most welcoming destinations for Bay Areans who need a quick tropical getaway to cleanse themselves of winter blues or real life jitters.
We've told you before how excited we are that Virgin America is launching its exclusive SFO-only leg to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on December 2nd, especially now that the air outside is getting a little nippy. We can't think of any better remedy for the winter blues than enjoying their in-flight amenities en route to somewhere special. To celebrate in style, they're offering major travel discounts through their fun Viva La Vacación tournament.
It's officially winter, and you can feel the cold down to your bones as you jump over rain puddles and scramble to stay warm in scarves and sweaters and coats. Guess what? We've got the remedy: you can win an all-inclusive three-night stay in gorgeous, sunny Puerto Vallarta, Mexico at the CasaMagna Marriott and a zip line tour, all courtesy of Virgin America. This includes two complete round trip flights (blackout dates apply). Talk about a vacation!
Talk to any citizen of the Bay Area and they'll tell you they love jetting down to stylish Palm Springs every once in a while for much-needed doses of sunshine and relaxation. Come wintertime, the need for vitamin D and desert oasis-getaways jumps tenfold–which is why Virgin America's direct flight from SFO's lavish T2 to Palm Springs, starting this December 15, is heaven-sent during the chilly months we have ahead of us.
If you've ever flown Virgin America out of SFO's new Terminal 2, you know that the vacation glow starts long before you touch down at your destination. Once you step onto the aircraft and settle into your luxurious leather seat, soak in the mood lighting, order handmade cocktails, food, and movies you wanted to see in theaters but never did, you can pretty much forget that you're on a plane to begin with. Treat it as a chance to watch Real Housewives in complete anonymity, or catch up on blogs by plugging into their wi-fi network. Even their bathrooms play techno music.
WIRED magazine once called Virgin America planes "multi-million dollar iPods that fly" -- a comparison that's even more appropriate now that the hometown airline of Apple-lovin' San Francisco has moved into SFO's Terminal 2. Virgin America will occupy seven gates at T2 (which has its opening ceremony this weekend) and collaborated closely with Gensler and Turner Construction on the design and concept from the early stages. Virgin America's always been a cut above the rest in tech-friendliness, sustainable practices (their planes are 25% more fuel efficient than others in the sky) and food services, experiences they have extended from plane to terminal in the new T2. Here are 7 Very Virgin America Reasons to Love SFO's Terminal 2.
Hanging out at the airport when there's no travel involved may sound like a curious weekend activity, but SFO's Terminal 2 Open House this Saturday does have some obvious perks. Namely, there's a ticket giveaway involved to any continental-US Virgin America destination. To win, you'll have to play SFO's twitter "Photo Safari" game at the Opening Ceremony. Here's how to play:
1. RSVP to the SFO Terminal 2 Community Open House (12-5 pm this Saturday)
2. Follow the official SFO Twitter feed, @flySFO.
Hip California-based airline Virgin America has just added a new stop to its ever-expanding repertoire of flights: Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This land of eternal sunshine marks the 10th destination on Virgins list and will have connections to both San Francisco (SFO) and Los Angeles (LAX). Fares start at $99 each way.
