There's tons of great music this week—Yuck, New Pornographers, !!!, Janet Jackson, Cypress Hill—but Aussie psych rock band Tame Impala is so hot right now that a live show is a must-see.
When: 8 p.m., Mon. 4/18
Where: The Fillmore, 1805 Geary Blvd.
Alvin Ailey Dance
The internationally acclaimed company has been churning out progressive dance since 1958, and this tour marks the end of the famous Judith Jamison's run as artistic director. Very, very big deal.
When: 8 p.m., Tues. 3/29 - Sun. 4/3
Where: Zellerbach Hall, Bancroft Way and Telegraph Ave., Berkeley
It's drag, performance art, dance, and theater all wrapped up in one seriously powerful package. If you've never seen local artist Monique Jenkinson as Fauxnique, get yourself to City Hall during lunch on Friday. She's giving a free, solo performance that will no doubt awe and amaze.
When: 12 p.m.; Fri. 4/1
Where: City Hall, Dr. Carlton B Goodlett Pl.
Tuesday, March 8
Theater: Rock of Ages
Start practicing your air guitar now. The Tony-nominated arena-rock musical transports you to the Sunset Strip circa 1987 when mullets, leotards, and studded leather pants reigned supreme and will have you waving your lighter like the good old days.
Details: 3/8 - 4/9; Curran Theatre, 445 Geary St.
