This Sunday, join 1,500 fellow bike-loving locals for the biggest bicycle bash of the season—Winterfest. Now in its 16th year, this annual party and fundraiser for the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is an event not to be missed. With wine and beer flowing, food by local vendors, an epic bike and art auction, and views of the city from the roof of the Metreon, it’s sure to be one of the best parties of the year.
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's annual Winterfest will be held on December 6 at SOMArts Gallery from 6:30 - 10pm. This year's party will include beer from bike-loving New Belgium, DJs Laron and ShOOey, an art auction, a silent & auction (including bikes, gift certificates, and a 90-minute bike ride and lunch with city supe David Chu), a craft show, and food vendors from across the city. And if that's not enough, the SFBC will also auction off a handcrafted bicycle quilt. Entry is a suggested $15 minium donation for SFBC members but if you aren't a member and would like to join, $40 at the door will cover your admission and a one-year SFBC membership. And yes, admission includes beer.
Even though he’s a nine-year member of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, local artist Jonn Herschend, 41, is quick to note that he isn’t a cycling fanatic (sfbike.org). “I don’t talk about bikes all the time,” he says. “It’s just a facet of my daily life.” What’s kept Herschend active in the advocacy group, however, is its dedication to improving bike safety and creating a citywide biking network. Herschend is giving back by spearheading the silent-art-auction portion of the SFBC’s annual fundraiser, Winterfest, held at SOMArts Cultural Center on December 7. The event—which features free valet bike parking and live entertainment — draws local politicians, artists and bike enthusiasts.
