Earth Day is coming up in a couple of weeks (Sunday, April 22) and a great way to get a head start on the annual celebration is to head over to Squaw Valley next week and take in the Wild & Scenic Film Festival.

A touring version of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival that is held each year in late January in Nevada City, the Squaw Valley showings will be held on the evenings of April 19 and 20 at the Olympic Village Inn as part of the Tahoe Truckee Earth Day Celebration. The festival focuses on films that "speak to the environmental concerns and celebrations of our planet."

On opening night, the highlight film of the six shorts on the program is Kadoma, a journey up the Congo River into the heart of Africa that won this year's Most Inspiring Adventure Film award at the Nevada City festival.

Another half-dozen short flicks will screen on the second night, with the featured film on the second night is Grow!, which takes a look at a new generation of sustainable farmers in the state of Georgia.

$10 advance tickets can be purchased at New Moon Natural Foods in Truckee and Tahoe City and at Alice's Market in Squaw Valley. The Wild & Scenic Film Festival at Squaw is sponsored in part by Project MANA, an Incline Village-based hunger relief agency, and Slow Food Lake Tahoe, whose mission is to reconnect people to the enjoyment of local, seasonal and sustainable foods.
