By

Tahoe's bounty of outdoor sports are even better if you can enjoy them with someone you love. If you're headed to the lake this month, here are five romantic things to do in the winter wonderland.

BIKE

On a clear day, a romantic bike ride from Eldorado Beach and along the lake can end with a picnic on the sands of Kiva or Baldwin Beach. Or, choose the paths that lead to the Tallac Historic Site and Fallen Leaf Lake. // Rent bikes at Anderson's Bike Rentals (645 Emerald Bay Road, South Lake Tahoe) or Sierra Ski and Cycle Works (3430 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe) for about $30 a day.

SOAK

Most visitors who travel to Sierra Hot Springs know about the large warm pool and the roasting Temple Dome pool, but too many skip the intimate and romantic Meditation Pool, located under the pine trees that surround this hot spring resort in Sierraville. For even more intimacy, book one of the Phoenix Baths located inside private rooms. // Day rates range from $15-$25/ person; 21 Campbell Hot Springs Road (Sierraville), sierrahotsprings.org

HIKE

Chickadee Ridge, as it's called by the locals, is the slope on the far south of the Tahoe Meadows area and is named after the chickadees that come flying down at your head looking for food. Bring some unsalted sunflower seeds or birdseed and let them eat out of your hands. And be prepared, the recent rainfall means this hike might require snowshoes. // outdoorproject.com

CLIMB

If your annual gift to each other is a new pair of rock climbing shoes, then Lover's Leap will be your favorite couple's climb. This cliff just south of Route 50 has over 150 established climbing routes and rises to about 500 feet. // supertopo.com

TOAST

Café Fiore has made a name for itself as one of the best places to steal a kiss in Northern California. With only seven tables in the entire café, it's a very intimate place to have a romantic dinner. Their menu includes Italian dishes such as bruschetta Siciliana, aragosta melodia and homemade ice cream that can be shared with one spoon. Choose your favorite bubbly from Fiore's significant wine selection and clink glasses. // 1169 Ski Run Boulevard #5 (South Lake Tahoe), cafefiore.com
