The Tahoe Fat Tire Festival, a fixture on the Sierra mountain bike scene from 1989-1999, is undergoing a renaissance at Squaw Valley from Sept. 20-23.
It's a four-day celebration of all things cycling–road riders will have their presence too–that includes races, tours, rides, clinics, kids' events, music and, of course, beer.
The mountain biking fest kicks off with a short-track mountain bike race and a kids' race through the Village at Squaw Valley on Thursday, followed by a mountain hill-climb race and local guided rides on Friday; a downhill race, a cross-country race, mountain bike skill clinics, the Tahoe Sierra Century road ride and a trail-building school on Saturday, and a super-downhill race, on-site guided rides and a end-of-festival party on Sunday.
Festival passes for spectators 21 and older cost $40 and get you access to the aerial tram, skill clinics, group rides, beer/wine coupons, raffle tickets, a t-shirt and more; passes for spectators not of legal drinking age are $30 (you get everything but the beer/wine coupons).
Registration fees for the various races range from $27.37 to $37.92 and there's a five-race package that goes for $127.59. Details and entry forms on everything can be found at tahoefattirefestival.com.eventbrite.com.
