Trails & Vistas 10th Anniversary Art Hike in Lake Tahoe

By

The Trails & Vistas 10th annual art hike in Lake Tahoe is coming your way. The experience, held later this year on September 7 and 8, 2013, unites live music, dance, sculpture, storytelling and painting with hiking along the Pacific Crest Trail on Donner Summer in the Tahoe National Forest. This year, the theme of the art hike is "Reflections" and will feature more than 30 musicians, dancers, poets, singers and visual artists including several Bay Area artists.

“We are very excited to bring a depth of talent in dance, art and music from around the world to this magical trail with alpine lakes and glacier boulders,” said Nancy Tieken Lopez, executive and co-artistic director of Trails & Vistas. “We are lucky to have worked with so many talented artists since we began the art hikes in the Truckee and Lake Tahoe region. We have asked a number of artists to return, to help us honor the past and celebrate our 10th year anniversary.”

The artists will perform aside stunning alpine lakes, next to a cathedral of pines and with breathtaking vistas as a backdrop. Artists include internationally acclaimed Angelika who sings songs and healing chants in ancient Sanskrit; Ian Ethan Case, a musician of the double-neck guitar and African Kalimba, whose rhythmic and melodic sounds are both innovative and deeply rooted in tradition; and Capacitor Dance, whose performance weaves seamlessly around the boulders and into the trees, among many others.

The cost for the art hike is $30 for adults and $10 children. Tickets go on sale on Earth Day, April 22, 2013 (and it often sells out). In addition to the hikes, Trails & Vistas will be also be holding a 10th anniversary concert at the Truckee Regional Park Amphitheatre from 6 to 9:30 pm on Saturday, September 7. Performers will include guitarist Ian Ethan Case, Reno Taiko Tsurunokai, a Japanese drum group based in Reno, NV and the forty-piece San Jose State Symphony Orchestra plus an opening act by the award-winning Native American Flutist Ann Licater from the San Francisco Bay area. Art hike attendees can take advantage of a 50% discount ($10) for the concert when purchasing art hike and concert ticket online. Non-hikers can experience the world music concert for $20 advance/$30 at the door.
