Warfield

The fourth annual, biennial Experience Hendrix Tour is back in the US and bringing its all-star lineup of musicians celebrating the music of Jimi Hendrix to the Warfield tomorrow and Wednesday night. This year's lineup includes Jimi Hendrix Experience guitarist Billy Cox, Aerosmith''s Brad Whitford, Joe Satriani, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Living Colour, and members of Los Lobos. The show has sold out a bunch of its other stops, but not San Francisco, so if you love Hendrix covers you're still in luck.

Wild Beasts.

Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf -- or synthesizers? Two UK bands playing this week in San Francisco -- Editors (Monday, Feb. 8, at the Warfield) and Wild Beasts (Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Independent) -- find swathes of fresh intrigue in those patches and plug-ins, all while baring their breasts and revealing busily percolating emotional lives.

Editors Take On The Warfield

(blog)
Editors

Showing off their brand new album In This Light And On This Evening, Editors have made a stealthy comeback with a whole new sound to match. What they're calling "dystopian, apocalyptic, mechanical ambience," translates to heavy synths, way more soaring guitars and lyrics dedicated to London, their "adopted home town." What's not to love?

We jumped at the opportunity to film Nashville band Paper Route for a guerilla-style video shoot inside Powell St. BART station. The lads are currently on tour with Paramore and opening tonight's SF gig at the Warfield. BART turned out to be a perfect setting to soundcheck even with the station operator's voice chiming in the background.

David Cross is both beloved and despised. His career has had brilliant moments, like Arrested Development and Mr. Show, and not-so-brilliant ones, like Alvin and the Chipmunks and the bizarre blog tiff with Patton Oswalt spawned by Chipmunks. But one thing is certain: he is one hell of a stand-up comedian.

Writing on the wall: PJ Harvey and John Parish.

Welcome to the temple of these familiars: PJ Harvey and old friend and collaborator John Parish might be issuing a warning shot with the first impressionistic lines of “Black Hearted Love,” the opening track of A Woman, a Man Walked By (Island).

After a media-hyped lawsuit forced Santigold to change her name earlier this year, the trend-setting genre-bender went on to open two legs of the Coldplay tour and is now headlining her own. See her making a pit-stop on her jet-setting tour at the Warfield with Amanda Blank and Trouble Andrew.

Lily Allen is irresistible charm. Sure, the Brit songstress' lyrics might not be the deepest, but they're the perfect light and catchy tunes we want in our heads. Try to score tickets to her show with Natalie Portman's Shaved Head at the Warfield.
