Lulu Meyer gives us the scoop on the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.

It’s a new year and many of our market sellers have exciting new products in the works. Over the next few months we’ll see the unveiling of everything from whole-wheat cake mix, to walnut oil to small-batch preserves. Needless to say, there will be lots to taste and enjoy in 2010. This week I was particularly excited to hear about these new cheeses from Cowgirl Creamery.

If you’re curious about what grows in your (or your neighbor’s) back yard, head to the Underground Farmers Market on January 28, where you can pick up locally foraged mushrooms, locally brewed kombucha and much, much more. The event will run from 5 to 11 p.m., but the location has yet to be announced. Check this site for details as they emerge.

Get boozy with CUESA and the SF Bartenders Guild. It may not feel like summer, but tonight the farmers market will turn into a tropical paradise with botanical-themed spirits paired with fresh summer produce like berries and peaches. Sip on two full-sized signature cocktails made with Square One Botanical and 12 sample-sized drinks featuring Beefeater 24 Gin, Bols Genever, Chartreuse, Galliano and Plymouth Gin. Bites will be provided by top local restaurants and the city's best bartenders will be pouring. Talk about bang for your buck.

Enjoy the morning at the market with Julie browsing through the stalls of gorgeous local produce. Learn how to select and cook the season's vegetables from fava beans to torpedo onions. Next, a private tasting to select the perfect wines for our meal. On to the kitchen, where we will turn our bounty into a wonderful wine country feast. Lunch is served on a beautiful outdoor patio.

Melissa Perello is at it again. The acclaimed chef will be preparing dinner at Sebo using the best summer produce from the farmers market. The four-course meal costs $45 and you can make reservations for one of two seatings (6 or 8:30 p.m._ by emailing monday_night@me.com).
