Actress-filmmaker Jennifer Siebel Newsom and her husband, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, welcomed the arrival of their first child today.

Weighing in at a healthy 7 lbs. 12 oz. and 20.5 inches, Montana Tessa Siebel Newsom was born at 12:39 p.m.

Their daughter is named after the state where the couple's July 2008 wedding was held on the grounds of the Siebel family's Bitteroot Valley ranch. Her middle name honors the Mayor's late mother, Tessa Newsom, who died of breast cancer in 2002.

Cop.Copine logo in the new SF boutique

A little bit of Paris alighted on Union Square Tuesday at the opening of the first free-standing Cop.Copine boutique in the U.S.

Located at 343 Powell Street along the ground floor of the St. Francis Hotel, the chic space features the sophisticated, yet eminently wearable, stylings of the French fashion company founded by designer Leon Nedelian.

Housed prominently in Baccarat's former space, Cop.Copine officially opens today in Union Square. The Parisian fashion label is looking to bring a taste of French Bohemian style to San Francisco with their beautifully draped dresses, cutting-edge fabrics, a youthful edge and of course, a certain je ne sais quoi. With their grand opening party (celebrating Jennifer Siebel Newsom) still over a month away, you have just enough time to assemble the perfect ensemble for what's sure to be an affair to remember.

As you already know, Monday was a heady day of power politicos who parachuted into San Francisco.

And the majority of these players (minus First Lady Michelle Obama, though she was, of course, invited) ended that day at an intimate dinner hosted by Protocol Chief Charlotte Mailliard Shultz and her husband, Former Sec. of State George Shultz in their Russian Hill aerie.

It's Not Easy Being Green

Celebrity cause-mongering has become about as ubiquitous as Lindsay Lohan's DUIs--to the point where it practically seems to accompany the job title. Every A-lister is attached to one, no matter how far-fetched or non-philanthrophic-seeming (think: Jessica Simpson as the face of Operation Smile, a charity dedicated to reconstructive surgery in developing nations...because that surely tops the list of worries for residents in countries like Somalia).

Anyone who thinks she's just another play-it-safe political spouse hasn't been listening very carefully.

The California Academy of Sciences' Leading Ladies

(article)

Lucy Hume and the California Academy of Sciences go way back. “I grew up with the Academy,” says Hume, a San Francisco pediatrician who also chairs the new Golden Gate Park facility’s Academy Guild steering committee. Not only did Hume work at the old Academy as a teenager, cleaning mouse cages and shark tanks (an experience that got her excited about science and eventually led her into medicine, she says), her parents also celebrated an anniversary there and her sister got married there.
