Integrating a television into a home's decor has been the bane of many a designer's existence for probably as long as the device has been around, resulting in some interesting–and occasionally odd–attempts at concealment or beautification. We've all seen the repurposed bureau-turned-hiding-place and the flat-screen-above-the-mantel, but that's just the tip of the creative iceberg. Catch an episode of Cribs and you might spy a bedroom with what we like to call the "Late Night Creeper", aka a flat screen concealed in a chest at the foot of the bed that rises at the touch of a remote.

Sweet and spooky, "Hearts" and Halloween are happening in our 'hood!

Trading its usual seaside chill for a brilliant month full of shades of orange, Half Moon Bay morphs into the Pumpkin Capital each and every October, and it all culminates with this very weekend: the annual Art & Pumpkin Festival.

Pooch-Friendly Partying at the Westin

Pac Heights resident canine, Roo, greets a friend on a walk through the neighborhood

If you're tired of hitting the town sans pooch, here's your chance to paint the town red with Fido in tow. At the Westin St. Francis' "Dogs Days of Summer" on Aug. 26, canines and their owners will be treated like VIPS (Very Important Pets and Persons) in an event benefitting the San Francisco SPCA.

indie mart

A few events happening around town this Father's Day weekend:

After a winter hibernation, Indie Mart is back this Sunday with its first outdoor event of the season. They'll be shutting down the street at 17th and Wisconsin for outdoor vendors, food, and crafters galore. Also, local bands The Frail, Shannon and the Clams, and The Red Verse will be performing throughout the day inside Thee Parkside.

Maybe it's the Johnny Depp effect, but there's no denying the universal appeal of pirates.  So if Father's Day BBQs and games of catch aren't your bag, we're going to go out on a plank (har har) and suggest the NorCal Pirate Festival, which promises to be a swashbucklin' good time.  There will be music, there will be crafts and there will be swordfights (obviously).

If you're not so much into the free love attitude that San Francisco embodies, if you hear the word "harmony" and automatically want to leave this page, hold on just a sec. While the prime focus of this weekend's Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa does encompass art, green living, ecology and spirituality "from the roots up," there's a whole lot more going on than just that.
