Arrow side tables from Homme
Homme

We love a classic combo (peanut butter and chocolate, heels and a black dress, etc) but there's something to be said for unexpected duos, as well. Take Homme for example, the new boutique recently opened in Russian Hill. Part millinery, part antique shop, it's not a pair you'd think to find together... and yet it somehow works. Must be since owner Michelle Homme is equally versed in both sides of the business–she is both an interior designer and hat maker, after all.

(blog)
SFFAS

The local design blogs were atwitter this week with the possibility that the Alameda Flea, as we know it, might be no more. A mysterious notice on the website announcing the show canceled for this weekend (and the coming future) was quickly yanked, replaced with a vague sense of unease–and lots of questions.

As attendees of the SF Fall Antiques Show Preview Party well know, things change.

From vendors, style, and available objets to even the size of shoppers’ wallets, change (and plus ça change) was in play on Wednesday in the Festival Pavilion at Fort Mason Center.

“It’s a fresh, new feeling this year,” enthused designer Christian Huebner. “Not everything is 100 years old. Some of the paintings I’ve seen tonight were created just two years ago.”

Monument's on the Move in the Mission

(blog)
Lily Gahagan

It's been a few weeks since we last made our way over to the Mish, so if this news hits you a little late, our apologies. However if you're like us and haven't been to the neighborhood in a bit, you might be surprised to find that Mid-Century Modern furniture boutique Monument is no longer occupying the storefront at 572 Valencia Street.

Designer Georgina Rice gave the royal treatment to a small studio apartment, proving that luxury comes in all sizes.

In the main room, Rice countered the formality of dark green walls with a lively leopard-print carpet. “In a space this small you’re very aware of every detail, because they are all around you,” says the homeowner.
