Yes, Yes, Yes, Oh Baby Yes

Welcome to the 2009 Burger Bonanza wherein two girls eat 20 of the city's best burgers, on the path to burger enlightenment. The 10 best will then be chosen to be featured—in ranking order—in 7x7's September magazine issue. Burgers must fit our "fancy burger" parameter: made with beef and available as part of the regular dinner menu at upscale restaurants in SF. Beyond that, we're open to suggestions, which we hope you will leave in the comment box below!

We’re looking forward to the special five-course prix fixe dinner at Mission Beach Café on November 19. The special meal, prepared by chef Ryan Scott, is a benefit for local business Creativity Explored, which gives artists with developmental disabilities a place to create, exhibit and sell art. Fittingly, many of the Creativity Explored artists feature food in their artwork. The dinner is $75 exclusive of alcohol, tax and gratuity; 25 percent of food sales will benefit the arts organization.

Best Brunch: Mission Beach Cafe

(article)

You can thank us next Saturday when you're sitting at Mission Beach Café, tucking into one of the most civilized ways to start your morning in the city. Rarely is there a long wait (well, maybe there will be soon) and the menu is thoughtful. We adore the fried-egg sandwich on an aïoli-slathered house-made sesame English muffin and the souffléd pancakes with blueberry cream and real maple syrup.

The large windows at Mission Beach Cafe look out over a formerly restaurant-free corner of the Mission, where Guerrero and 14th streets intersect. Because of its all-day hours, neighbors pop in for a morning cup of coffee, then return for lunch or dinner later in the day. The space feels welcoming at all times, and gets bonus style points for the oversize floral arrangements and classic Heath tableware.

Eats:What's on your menu.:
At breakfast, pick up a moist, not-too-sweet ginger blueberry muffin and perfect cannelés, a French pastry that has a cult following here. Lunch is a primarily salad-and-sandwich affair, but dinner showcases innovative takes on classics: A Caesar salad is lightened with a garlicky blood-orange dressing, the pot pie is rabbit, not chicken, and a burger is presented in miniature—three ounces of perfectly cooked beef on a soft bun with a side of spiced fries.

All Day Long

It's morning, noon and night at a Mission joint.

It's morning, noon and night at a Mission joint.San Francisco is seeing the renaissance of the neighborhood joint, the kind of place that’s open all day long, breakfast through dinner. At Mission Beach Cafe, neighbors pop in for their morning cappuccino (Blue Bottle, natch) and a warm cheese Danish made in-house by baker Alan Carter, then return a few hours later for a lunch meeting and the poached-ahi salad.
