If you prefer to dine out on NYE, now is the time to make reservations—wait until after Christmas and you’ll be dining at Sonic rather than Delfina. We’ve compiled a list of some of the local gems that still have space (as of this newsletter) for the big night. But don’t dally—reservations are going fast.

Slanted Door
The best news we've heard in a while? Fourty-four seats have just opened up on the Slanted Door's patio, overlooking the waterfront. An order of summer rolls, cold beef carpaccio with peanuts and lime and cellophane noodles with fresh crab, make perfect warm-weather fare. Cocktail aficionados will appreciate the ice program here too; just ask.

But since its conception, everyone from global tycoons to celebrities to our President has joined the highly addictive social media site. But former Google god, Charlie Ayers, the chef behind the multi-billion-dollar company's dining success, has set out to change that. First order of business: Bringing a much-needed, top-notch eatery to Palo Alto's once-forgotten Town & Country Village.

Celebrate Oliveto's tradition of special dinners on the last night of its annual truffle series. Make that short trek across the bridge to sample such delicacies as duck liver panna cotta with black truffle gelatina, truffled cotechino sausage with Belgian endive and parmesan fonduta and Watson farm lamb with–you guessed it—black truffles.

Il Fornaio restaurant turns twenty this month, and they’re giving a gift to you—wear a piece of platinum in for lunch or dinner (or anything shiny and platinum-like) and remember to say “Happy Birthday!” and they’ll bring you a complimentary glass of Prosecco. Thousands of neighbors, friends and associates in San Francisco will support loved ones and friends living with AIDS and battling breast cancer by participating in DineAround 2008. Join hundreds of Zephyr real estate agents in creating hope by simply going out to lunch or dinner at one of 25 participating restaurants. These restaurants will donate 25 percent of their food and beverage receipts to the AIDS and Breast Cancer Emergency Funds.
