With an inconspicuous Natoma address, Zebulon—named after an eccentric wizard in a French political cartoon series from the ’60s—is easy to pass by, but you won’t want to miss this little spot that serves sandwiches and sweet-potato fries to the lunch crowd, and margaritas and mojitos to the happy-hour crowd. By day, the Rev offers free wireless, abundant coffee and ample people watching. By night, a friendly, red wine swilling throng spills out into the street, transforming this Mission bar into the bohemian cafe of your beret-and-baguette dreams, minus the passport.

Liverpool Lil's

(business)
This dark, English-style pub on the edge of the Presidio is bar-casual in the front room, while the back is devoted to white-tablecloth dining. Celebrities (Sean Penn, Jerry Springer and local boy Gavin Newsom) turn up here from time to time, and on warm afternoons you can grab a table on the outdoor patio and sip your pint in the sunshine.

Though it now houses a wine bar, this striking primary-colored space hasn't changed much since its first incarnation as the Oxygen Bar. Twosomes on dates and chatty groups of friends pile onto squat, cushy red benches amid a backdrop of canary-colored walls and ink-blue tiles. Paréa celebrates the wines of Greece, a country perhaps more known these days for its olive oil than its fine vintages. Patrons can wash down Mediterranean small plates, such a garlicky tzatziki and a classic Greek salad with a light lemon vinaigrette, with a refreshing Santorini white or an unctuous Rapsani red.
