If Ironside was a girlfriend, she'd be the kind that you really like a lot, that you enjoy spending time with, but who you aren't sure you are going to marry. Ironside is a good-time girl, and sometimes a good-time girl is exactly what you need. The month-old restaurant, opened by the owners of District around the corner, have created a place that speaks to these times. It's casual, it's affordable, it doesn't take itself too seriously, and the eclectic menu has a more refined version of the something-for-everything ethos.

When you're done feasting your eyes at the city's museums, feast for real at these nearby restaurants.
Museum-going can rev up an appetite along the scale of the Roman Coliseum. When you get your fill of eye candy, why not treat your taste buds to a glass of wine and good eats? Not only do these seven spots serve up exhibit-worthy plates of food, they also offer contemporary design and cool lighting concepts to rival any museum experience.

District’s wine and cheese director, Caterina Mirabelli, may be a newcomer to SF, but she’s already got some favorite spots.Perhaps the biggest draw at District (216 Townsend St., 415-896-2120), South Beach’s latest wine-bar-cum-restaurant, is the 30-year-old Rome-born wunderkind Caterina Mirabelli. The irrepressible wine and cheese director may have lived in SF less than a year, but she’s already adamant about her favorite spots—which is what we’d expect from any self-respecting, discriminating Italian.

This lofty converted warehouse on the newly happening stretch of Townsend Street has exposed brick and beams, a giant U-shaped Brazilian-wood bar and a polished crowd. In deference to its proximity to the ballpark, one flat-screen TV plays the game for fans.

Eats:What's on your menu.:
It’s hard to categorize District: neither a wine bar nor a restaurant, but a happy hybrid of both. Given that it offers 32 wines by the glass, nine tasting flights and a reserve list of more than 100 bottles, wine clearly plays a major role. But the small plates—such as crisp risotto fritters (arancini di riso), steamed mussels with Pernod and spicy Italian sausage and artful cheese and salumi plates—are a good match for wines of all types.

The South Beach Diet

Offering up a little bit of everything, District is helping to define the city's sleekest new neighborhood.

Offering up a little bit of everything, District is helping to define the city's sleekest new neighborhood.Even on weeknights, District is busy. In the sweeping former warehouse located on the ballpark stretch of Townsend that’s fast becoming South Beach’s restaurant row, couples head for tables along the brick walls while, beneath the exposed wooden beams, longlegged blondes grab seats at the central U-shaped bar.
