Tom Colicchio, Will He Pose Nude?

Tom Colicchio's book signing brings droves to Williams-Sonoma.

A line made up of hundreds of mostly breathless, 30-something women snaked three floors down and out the door of the Williams-Sonoma in Union Square yesterday. They were all clutching copies of the new 'wichcraft cookbook by Tom Colicchio in anticipation of getting the royal Top Chef judge's autograph.

This one's a biggie—Top Chef fans should duck out of work early and head to Union Square on Wednesday for a panini sandwich tasting with the show's head judge. Meet and mingle with the celebrity chef as he signs copies of his new book, 'Witchcraft.

Sweetest Sandwich

(article)

'Wichcraft's peanut-butter sandwich cookie is the great equalizer.

'Wichcraft's peanut-butter sandwich cookie is the great equalizer.Though dueling rants and raves have plagued ’Wichcraft since the SF outpost of Tom Colicchio’s NYC sandwich shop opened its doors, we believe its peanut-butter sandwich cookie is the great equalizer. Not too large, it pairs ultra-peanutty cookies with a sweet, smooth peanut-butter center. At $1 a pop, it’s not the biggest bargain in town—but then again, it’s not a $10 sandwich either.

After walking past the seemingly endless rows of boutiques in the new Westfield SF Centre, make your way through Bloomies to Mission Street to find casual but not food-court–level sustenance at the SF outpost of Top Chef judge Tom Colicchio’s upscale NYC sandwich chain. The cavernous space is sparely decorated, with long communal tables and an order-then-take-a-seat setup.

Eats:What's on your menu.:
Colicchio has set out to prove that there’s more to the sandwich than processed meat slapped between slices of white bread. But be prepared to pay for it; these designer creations aren’t cheap (prices hover around $8). A grilled cheese made with Gruyère is gussied up with caramelized onions; slow-roasted pork is dressed with spicy mustard, red cabbage and jalapeños. Egg lovers will appreciate the all-day breakfast menu, which features a decadent fried-egg sandwich with bacon, gorgonzola and. For dessert, paper-thin peanut-butter sandwich cookies are a delight.
