Golden Bears head coach Joanne Boyle traces her long and winding road from the streets of Philadelphia to her courtside seat at Berkeley.While growing up in Philadelphia, Joanne Boyle was a self-proclaimed tomboy. “We lived on a street with almost all boys, so I found my way athletically, through climbing trees and playing baseball,” says the 43-year-old Lafayette resident. She “fell into basketball” in high school simply because her friends were playing the game, but it grew into a passion that landed her in 2005 at UC Berkeley as head coach of the women’s team—and through some peaks and valleys on the way.
