They say size doesn’t matter, but try telling that to the folks at Marine Layer, whose new Friday happy hour events kick off today in the local t-shirt company’s Russian Hill loft.

“The reason I launched the company was because I was always in between a medium and a large,” explains Michael Natenshon, who launched the line of super-soft men’s polo shirts and tees ($29-$60) with Sarah Lazaro last spring.

The latest reason to head to Polk Street? Tedda Hughes Gallery Boutique opened its doors over the weekend. In the eponymous shop from local artist and designer Tedda Hughes, clothing and accessories from such independent designers as Richard Ruiz, She-Bible and Helena de Natalio accompany new work from local artists such as Hilary Williams, dk haas and Trish Tunney.

Biondivino

(business)
Nearly 2,000 bottles fill this tiny space; most are from Italy, with the rest from Austria and elsewhere in Europe. It’s one of the few places in SF to find Billecart-Salmon Champagne.

Hyde Street: Polk's Quieter (Apart from the Cable Cars) Sibling

(article)

It makes sense that, when his workday is over, Mayor Gavin Newsom often retreats to upper Hyde Street to dine at the bar at Luella. Safely removed from the bustle of Polk Street to the west and North Beach to the east, this strip of Russian Hill feels like a throwback to another era. You can still get your poodle groomed in one of several salons, or eat an ice cream from the country’s very first Swensen’s as you watch the Powell-Hyde cable car rattle by. The pizza parlor regularly signs for UPS deliveries, holding them for locals to pick up after work. And the lack of parking?
