Doctor On Demand Offers Therapy Online

Did you ever see Web Therapy with Lisa Kudrow? You really should if you haven't—improvised 15 minute online episodes, all over web chat, with Kudrow playing a self-absorbed, ethically-challenged, not-so-licensed psychotherapist. The series was, in a word, brilliant. (Watch them all here; the ones with Julia Louis-Dryfus are excellent.) Well, that ostensibly zany premise, minus the questionable therapy, is now a reality.

Doctor On Demand now offers behavioral health services nationally, via video visits with doctorate-level psychologists using your laptop, tablet, or phone. Sessions average around $50 for a 25 minute session, and $95 for a 50 minute session with either a psychologist or psychiatrist. But Doctor On Demand isn't only limited to matters swimming around in your scattered brain. They can also help with non-emergency issues like cold and flu, breastfeeding, sports injuries, and more, for $40 per session. (Life-threatening emergencies, of course, should be directed to 911.)

Oh, and did we mention that, although it's based in San Francisco, Doctor On Demand was cofounded by Dr. Phil? Indeed. "The primary goal for all helping professions should be to make quality, cost-effective services available to the largest sector of the population as possible. Given the pace of modern life, this has never been more important for the mental health profession than it is today," says the noted TV show host.

Here's a brief video on showing you how it's done.
