A Sunrise Hike With City Views

Are you a fan of snuggling to stay warm, hot coffee poured from a thermos, and breathtaking views of San Francisco? If the answer is yes, this date is for you. Trust us, the early morning wake-up is well worth the effort, and you'll have the rest of the day to enjoy with your special someone. The crowd-pleasing Instagram photo is just an added bonus. Learn more.

Inside Tip: Plan to arrive about an hour before sunrise in order to give yourself enough time to hike the mile up to the lookout and set up your camera. Dress warm, bring your favorite hot beverage, and pack a blanket. It can get chilly.

Picnic On A Black Sand Beach

You don't need to go all the way to Hawaii to find a secluded black sand beach—there's one just minutes across the Golden Gate. This under-the-radar gem features a mile-long stretch of black sand and sweeping views of the Bay Area. The hike-in nature of this spot tends to make it much less crowded than other beaches in the area. A fun side note: This is technically a “clothing optional" beach, but most of the nudists hang out on the south end. Liberate yourself, or remain clothed. We won't judge. Learn more.

Inside Tip: On a sunny day the small parking lot fills up, so plan on getting there before noon. Also, getting to the beach requires heading down 250 or so wooden steps, so keep the picnic pretty simple and don't pack a big cooler. Your back will thank you later.

Romantic Camping In Napa Valley

This is a romantic getaway perfect for those who prefer to spend their nights stargazing and keeping warm around a campfire. This beautiful Napa Valley campground has it all—10 miles of hiking trails, 1,900 acres of redwoods to explore, a swimming pool, showers, an easy bike ride to award winning wineries, and the best part...brand new yurts, with beds. This is a great option if your date loves the outdoors, but isn't too keen on the idea of sleeping on the floor of a tent. Learn more.

Inside Tip: There are only ten yurts at Bothe-Napa Valley SP, so be sure to check for availability.

Bike The Golden Gate To Sausalito

If the forecast is calling for a beautiful sunny day, hop on a couple of bikes and head across the Golden Gate to explore Sausalito. It hits all of the key components that contribute to a successful outdoor date - not too strenuous, beautiful views, drinks, and a potential boat ride home. The rest is up to you. Learn more.

Inside Tip: Stop at Sam's Cafe in Sausalito to grab a bite and enjoy some drinks on their back deck. The ferry pickup back to San Francisco is right next door.

A Full Moon Hike To Mission Peak

Evening views of the South Bay, a romantic picnic, a breathtaking full moon, and hopefully some snuggling are your reward for making the climb to the top of Mission Peak. It's a steep 3-mile trek to the top of the peak and then back down the same way. This is a moderate hike that provides a nice workout, so be prepared. The next full moons are October 8, November 6, and December 6. Learn more.

Inside Tip: Start your hike a couple of hours before sunset so you can take your time. Once you're at the summit, bundle up, enjoy a nice picnic, and wait for the moon to rise. A blanket to share is highly recommended and make sure you pack a headlamp or flashlight for the return trip.
