Mitzi Pederson at Ratio 3
For "3:43," Mitzi Pederson adapted the gallery floor as her studio space for weeks, draping and stretching tulle and sometimes trapping it beneath slabs of concrete sparkled with glitter. It's not for everyone, but if you're game to suspend judgement, it's interesting site-specific installation art.
When: Through Sat. 2/15
Where: Ratio 3, 2831A Mission St.

Performance
Jess Curtis/Gravity
More experimental art here—SF and Berlin-based choreographer Jess Curtis rolls out Experiment 2.2, a performance piece launched last year in both cities. This time around, it's revamped and half the length, its framework is based on the constant necessity of software updates for optimal performance in today's world. The piece includes live, onstage streaming of real-time data from select audience members.
When: Thurs. 1/30–Sat. 2/1
Where: Joe Goode Annex, 401 Alabama St.

Show
Dark Universe at the Planetarium
Cal Academy unveils its newest planetarium space show, Dark Universe, which celebrates pivotal discoveries in our galaxy and features stunning renderings of cosmic phenomena, seminal scientific instruments, and otherworldly scenes in deep space. As with all planetarium shows, this is going to be one hot ticket.

Where: California Academy of Sciences, 55 Music Concourse Dr.

Dance
Martha Graham
For the first time in many seasons, Martha Graham Dance Company touches down in the Bay Area with a program of signature works. The troupe brings back 1944's Appalachian Spring, which originally featured Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham to the score by Aaron Copland (which earned him a Pulitzer Prize). The program is rounded out with Cave of the Heart (based on the story of Medea) and Maple Leaf Rag (a fun nod to the ragtime music of Graham's early years).
When: 8 p.m., Fri. 1/31 and Sat. 2/1
Where: Zellerbach Hall, Bancroft Way and Telegraph Ave., Berkeley

Think Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers, Geographer, The Dodos, Zoe Keating, How to Dress Well, Rogue Wave, Two Gallants, John Vanderslice, and more.
