"CUBA: Experiences of Havana"
Head over to Sausalito for some seafood, and swing by the Studio 110 Gallery. Through a variety of mediums, SF Art Institute MFA students share their responses to and collective experience of the fragmented and often convoluted history of Cuba (they recently returned from a trip there). From photo collages to video to a screen T, this eclectic exhibit is sure to speak to something within everyone.

Fallaci
Pulitzer Prize-winner Lawrence Wright, between writing essays for The New Yorker and bestselling books, found time to craft a theatrical piece which made its world premiere in the Bay Area earlier this month. The play brings to life one of the legendary mavericks of journalism, Oriana Fallaci, who turned standard interview protocol into a clash of intellect. Her story unfolds as an older Oriana is interviewed by an up-and-coming, feisty, female journalist.

The House I Live In
This award-winning documentary which made a splash at Sundance offers a stirring perspective of the war on drugs. Seen through the eyes of a heartbroken mother, a dealer, an inmate, and a federal judge, director Eugene Jarecki captures the inevitable drug-related effects on human rights.

Golden Grrrls
Scotland arrives in San Francisco in the form of vocally-harmonizing, guitar-experimenters Golden Grrrls. This indie-pop trio pulls from the famed music history of Glasgow, DIY punk, and 1980s Australian pop scenes to brighten lyrics about the realities of life.

de Young Friday Nights
Friday Nights at the de Young kicks off its 9th season this Friday with a dynamic lineup including Grammy Award-winning Mads Tolling and his quartet, a surprise Beach Blanket Babylon performer, and hands-on art and crafts. It's all topped off with a screening of Girl with a Pearl Earring, a tie-in to the current Dutch artists exhibit. Don't miss out on speciality cocktails and a nighttime city view from the de Young tower.

Afropop Spectacular
Zimbabwe's, and arguably Africa's, best musician, Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi, has nearly 60 albums to his name that blend influences from Zimbabwe and South Africa with thumb-piano rhythms and ancestral drumming. And Fatoumata Diawara is gaining international buzz with her socially conscious music fused with an African twist on contemporary folk vibes.
