Following a brilliant run on Broadway, David Mamet's Race makes its West Coast debut at A.C.T. New York Magazine calls the performance about three lawyers representing a wealthy white man accused of assaulting a black woman a "shock drama of sex, race, loyalty, and betrayal."

Halloween
Edible Insects, SFMOMA's Now Playing, and Tragic Magic
The Headlands Center for the Arts is hosting Edible Insects and Other Rare Delicacies, a multi-course dinner and discussion examining a taboo delicacy: bugs. SFMOMA's Now Playing event features performance artist Ann Magnuson giving a nod to David Bowie and embodying Jobriath, the only openly gay star of the glam rock revolution. Plus, dress your best for for SFMOMA's costume contest. And over at the Contemporary Jewish Museum, award-winning magician Joshua Jay recounts the mysterious deaths of magicians throughout history. SF Fall Antiques Show
Design fanatics, get ready. The oldest antiques fair on the West Coast—now in its 30th year—is back. This year's theme is hidden treasures, so keep your eyes peeled and peruse the 60-plus vendors' wares carefully.

Vernon Davis Art Exhibit
SF 49ers tight end Vernon Davis (and one of 7x7's 2010 Hot 20 winners) is not your average hot-stuff football player. The man of many talents will unveil 13 of his original paintings at 1317 Gallery on Friday. The exhibit is part of Davis' partnership with the African-American Arts and Culture Community, which launches the A.R.T. Ambassador Youth Program, a 4-year arts education program benefiting deserving Bay Area students.

Grouplove, Deadmau5, and Cake
Indie band Grouplove just released their first full-length album last month and they've been touring with Florence and the Machine. This time, they're playing a show at Bimbo's. On Saturday, get your party on with electro sensation Deadmau5 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. And on Sunday, funky alt rock old timers Cake will get you groovin' at the Fox. No costumes required.
