Discussion: Mad Men's Creator Matthew Weiner
The ad-tastic AMC series that has us plugged in every Sunday has been racking up awards and praise since the beginning, so it's no surprise that the JCC's discussion with creator and executive producer Matthew Weiner is sold out. Lucky for you, the center is simulcasting the lecture in Fisher Hall, for which tickets are still available. Dress the part and get ready to have your picture taken, Mad Men-style. $10; Wednesday 10/13; The Jewish Community Center, 3200 California St., jccsf.org

Performance Art: Pow! Pow! Pow!
If MOMA and the de Young are too buttoned up for your taste, check out the third annual Pow! Pow! Pow! action arts festival, guaranteed to turn heads all over the city. Well-known performance artist Guillermo Gomez Peña called last year's event "the most radical arts festival in San Francisco in many years." Anything goes—things like onstage urination are not out of the question—since there's no funding from large, stodgy organizations. Brace yourself for the good, bad, and the downright ugly. Thursday, 10/14 - Sunday, 10/17; various venues

Music: Kelley Stoltz and The Fresh & Onlys
Here's a low-key double whammy: Local favorites Kelley Stoltz and The Fresh & Onlys are teaming up for a double album release show at Du Nord. Indulge yourself with To Dreamers, which adds a little post-punk flair to Stoltz's usual pop. Expect an infectious pop record with catchy hooks from the red-hot Fresh & Onlys' Play It Strange, which was recorded in only a week. The first person to correctly identify the 7x7 issue in which I predicted the band's success wins a pair of tickets to the show. $12; Friday, 10/15; Cafe Du Nord, 2170 Market St., cafedunord.com, email your answer to events@7x7.com

Music: Treasure Island Music Festival
Outside Lands may be bigger, but my bets are on Treasure Island being better. The fourth annual festival's lineup is packing a much bigger punch. We're gearing up for LCD Soundsystem, She & Him, The National, Ra Ra Riot, Broken Social Scene, Die Antwoord, and Maus Haus. For all this, the price is definitely right. $68+; Saturday 10/16 - Sunday 10/17; treasureislandfestival.com

Shopping: Capsule Design Festival
Get an early start on your holiday shopping. Snag your family, friends, and significant others one-of-a-kind finds from local, independent designers. Peruse more than 100 vendors for men's, women's, and children's clothing, accessories, stationery, art, music, and more. While away the afternoon and then grab a brew at Suppenkuche. Free; Sunday, 10/17; Hayes Valley Park, Octavia and Hayes streets, capsulesf.com
