The East Bay artisan bagel-off continues to heat up with another entrant to the race this week, but perfect bagels aren’t the only reason to cross the bridge. This weekend an indie rock concert in the vineyards and a fabulous Barry McGee exhibit are also big draws.

Beauty’s Bagel Shop Opens Hotly anticipated for almost a year now, Beauty’s Bagel Shop finally opened this week and promptly sold out of bagels within a few hours on its first day in business. Get there early to sink your teeth into delicious Montreal-style bagels—boiled in honey-sweetened water, then baked in a wood-fired oven to give them a perfect crunchy exterior, chewy interior, and smoky, slightly sweet taste.

Barry McGee at BAM A fantastic retrospective of Bay Area artist Barry McGee’s (aka “Twist”) work is taking over the Berkeley Art Museum this month. Bringing together everything from McGee’s hobo-esque letterpress murals and big, sad faces to the graffiti’d “SNITCH” over the museum’s façade, the exhibit provides a comprehensive look at one of the Bay Area’s most interesting artists.

Front Porch Music Festival at Wente Vineyard The finale of the Front Porch Music Series at Wente Vineyards is coming up this Saturday, featuring performances from indie bands The Mountain Goats and The Dodos, along with Karl Wente’s own band. Named "American Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast Magazine, Wente also recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of bringing Chardonnay cuttings from Montpelier, France to Livermore, California. In addition to the music, the festival, which runs from 3 to 9 pm, will feature snacks from local food vendors and wine tasting, naturally.
