Latin Music Night

Get back to your Latin roots (even if you don’t have any) by coming out to Latin Music Night, presented by the 2013 Summer Nights Outdoor Music Festival. It’ll bring two Latin bands together: Los Pinguos, with their vivacious mixture of rhythms, and LoCura, whose diverse sounds have a rich history with the Bay Area. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to dance — there’s a pre-event Latin dance lesson to give everyone the moves to hit the dance floor. Saturday, August 3 @the OSHER Marin JCC, 200 N. San Pedro Rd, San Rafael. $25 at the door, children 17 and under are free.

Mt. Tamalpais Dias Ridge Hike

If you’ve been feeling blue because of the gray weather lately, get your sunshine fix by heading up to Mt. Tam for a hike this weekend. The guided Dias Ridge hike will lead you through the late wildflowers of the late summer season. Make sure you’ve broken in your hiking boots — it’s a moderate hike that can get up to a 2,200 foot elevation gain. But after the sharp hills of San Francisco, we’re sure you can handle a mountain’s hills. Begins at 10 am at the Dias Ridge trailhead on Sunday, August 4.

Opera Guild Champagne Gala

Tap into the musical culture of Marin at the Opera Guild Champagne Gala, where you’ll be able to hear the young opera stars of tomorrow alongside SF Opera’s Adler Fellows. With hors d’oeuvres and (of course) champagne, this event is sponsored by the Marin Chapter of the SF Opera Guild and will benefit opera education programs in Marin schools. Sunday, August 4 @ San Domenico Music Conservatory, 1500 Butterfield Road, San Anselmo. Tickets are $50.
