Need something to do this weekend while everyone else is drinking $9 tall cans at Treasure Island Music Festival? You too, can get out of the city. Just take a brisk drive over the Golden Gate or a ferry ride to see what's happening in Marin.
We love a little cover band action from time to time (and the Bay Area is filled with a some of the best!). Saturday night at the Sweetwater Music Hall, be mesmerized by House of Floyd, an eclectic group covering, you guessed it, Pink Floyd. They include it all - serious jamming paired with soporific sound effects and visuals for an all-encompassing musical experience. With all of the lasers, fog, and lighting plus a few drinks, damn, you might just believe you're at the real thing. Go early to grab a bite at the Sweetwater Café, it's really good. Saturday 10/19, 9 p.m., $22, buy tickets here.
Join Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT) at Nicasio Valley Farms pumpkin patch this Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. for a day of making, baking, eating, and drinking. With free admission, you can learn how to make mozzarella cheese, bake your own 'za, press your own apple juice, and of course take home the perfect pumpkin. Take the kiddos and spend a day making fun farm crafts or take a picture in the photo booth. With organic food from Farmer's Wife and Stemple Creek Ranch to accompany the crafted brew from Lagunitas Brewing Company this event is well worth the brief migration out of the city.
No, we're not talking about the Woody Allen film here. We're talking about Art Works Downtown Midnight in Paris in San Raphael, a night of celebrating the art of Paris during the late 1800's and the early 1900's. Call the babysitter and check out how Art Works Downtown totally transformed their 40,000-square-foot building into a Parisian paradise. From 7 p.m. until midnight you can treat yourself to oysters, take a load off in the Cabaret Lounge, or take a peak into Matisse's studio complete with a live nude model. Tickets are $125 but there will be no shortage of things to do including a silent auction and lots of live music.
