Okkervil River, the indie band that helped the legendary Roky Erickson make his first new music in 14 years, rolls through the Fox Theater next week on June 22, touting their ecstatic, frantic anthems of joy and forboding in a revelatory show that will shake the walls.
In the vein of the Arcade Fire or Sunset Rubdown, Okkervil River's slow yet epic builds using frontman Will Sheff's bursting-with-soul vocals and the rest of his band's ferocious instrumentals, light up their newest disc I Am Very Far (Jagjaguwar), their first non-concept album in years. It's a bold amalgamation of songs that sees the band brushing off their folksy sound in favor of a more highly-literate and melodious sound that increases their wingspan in a big way.
