The Memorial Weekend Docket

By

Before I sign off for the long weekend (although I've been mentally checked out of this week since, oh, Monday), I thought I'd leave you with a few Memorial Weekend space fillers to close the gaps in your plans. Until next week, wishing you beau temps for your barbecues!

Friday: The Outdoor Adventure Club is hosting a Memorial Weekend Rock Climbing and Camping event at Pinnacles National Monument. Don't worry, beginners are welcome to join the festivities: Guides cover basic knowledge of equipment, terminology, safety, anchoring and footwork. Now's a good a time as any to turn your indoor rock-gym training into real-life spiderman wizardry in the great outdoors.

Saturday: It's Giants cap night at AT&T Park. The first 20,000 fans through the doors at the 6:05 p.m. game against the Arizona Diamondbacks receive a classic orange-and-black lid to help demonstrate their hometown spirit.

Sunday: This day of rest calls for an 11 a.m. free rooftop yoga class at Lombardi Sports (weather permitting) and an evening movie at the Roxie: Big River Man, a 2009 Audience Award Winner at Sundance, is a documentary about Slovenian endurance swimmer Martin Strel and his 66-day, 3,375 mile swim down the Amazon River.

Monday: Call of the Sea, a local non-profit that aims to educate people on marine sciences, nautical heritage and the ocean environment, is hosting an all-day sail aboard their 82-foot schooner to the Farallones Islands. The boat skirts close to the islands' shores for on-deck viewing of sea lions, elephant seals, Western gulls and cormorants. Beware, great whites do circle these waters hoping for a bite of of elephant seal...or a man overboard.
