Cutting-edge design. The fusion of art and tech. Banksy. Those are only thee of the many highlights coming your way at the inaugural Art Silicon Valley/San Francisco (Art SV/SF). Art SV/SF is Art Miami’s first international, contemporary art fair on the West Coast. This must-attend event for art lovers is coming to the San Mateo County Event Center over Columbus Day weekend (October 9 -12).
Even if it doesn't feel like it in San Francisco, we're in the throes of fall, which means it's the perfect time to set aside your summer cocktail standbys and mix it up with something complex and savory. To this end, we asked the talent behind four of our favorite watering holes to create a brand-new cocktail for us to sample.
As much as we love San Francisco, sometimes we want to slow our pace, step away from the fog, and just sip cabernet under the Napa Valley sun. Although it’s a mere hour-long drive from SF, Napa’s idyllic vineyards and crave-worthy eateries feel like a world away. This is your guide to the best food, wineries, hotels, and services that the area has to offer.
After sampling ten craft rickey cocktails from San Francisco's top bartenders, our readers have spoken, and we have a winner! Monarch's Fred Acebo swept the competition with his "Banning Rickey" cocktail, a distinct remix of the traditional rickey recipe with notes of grapefruit and a spoonful of absinthe, creating unexpected layers of flavor that play well against the cocktail's Cointreau foundation.
Head over to Monarch and ask Acebo to whip up the Banning Rickey for you, or follow the directions below to mix it at home and show off your cocktail-making skills.
The Cocktail: Banning Rickey
We'd like to speak out on behalf of the pigeonholed spirits of the world. Despite what you've been taught, cachaça can tackle a whole lot more than the classic caipirinha. The bold Brazilian spirit has been popping up all around San Francisco lately, from cozy neighborhood joints to a lofty rooftop deck. To take advantage of our local talent, Cachaça 51 invited five of SF's most creative mixologists to mix up a brand-new cocktail that demonstrates their locale's personality and shows off a little of their own flair.
The holidays are still several months away, but it's never too early to acknowledge the gifts that many local charities bestow upon our community throughout the year. The fifth annual San Francisco's Favorite Charities Contest presents the perfect opportunity to shine a spotlight on the top do-gooders who make the Bay Area a better place to live.
