Winning Recipes from the Root + Snap Cocktail Competition at Hecho and Nopa

Back in July, one of our favorite new libations, Art in the Age's organic ROOT + SNAP held a cocktail competition pitting SF mixologists against one another in the quest for the most delicious cocktail using these two new liqueurs. And there's nothing SF bartenders love more than a chance to show off their skills. The creations were judged on presentation, aroma, taste and creativity. Who came out on top, you ask?

The "My Little Pony": Cocktail #8 in SVEDKA and 7x7's Mixology Competition

To celebrate the last month of Summer 2011, 7x7 and SVEDKA are teaming up to honor the city's bartenders and their skills of invention with an epic mixology competition! You can vote for your favorite featured bartender and their lascivious libation from August 1st through August 31st. You (yes, you!) will be entered to win a $50 bar tab at the winning watering hole. The winner of the San Francisco contest will be revealed on September 7th. Have fun trying all the great cocktails!

The "I'm Happy Now": Cocktail #7 in SVEDKA and 7x7's Mixology Competition

Here's this week's question:

In 2009, the Beastie Boys cancelled their Outside Lands performance last minute (the group decided to put its focus on Adam "MCA" Yaunch's recovery from cancer rather than touring). Who replaced them on the lineup? And which artist (who also performed at Outside Lands that year) expressed disappointment (an understatement) about the switch via Twitter?

The Potion #7: Cocktail #6 in SVEDKA and 7x7's Mixology Competition

To celebrate the last month of Summer 2011, 7x7 and SVEDKA are teaming up to honor the city's bartenders and their skills of invention with an epic mixology competition! Here's our sixth featured bartender, Sean Roland from Rebel. He mixed up the Potion #7 using SVEDKA vodka. Visit Sean at the bar at Rebel (and eat some of Sneaky's BBQ!), or try his recipe at home.

The Swedish Smile: Cocktail #5 in SVEDKA and 7x7's Mixology Competition

Help the SF SPCA Raise Funds for Rescue Dog Alpha's Heart Surgery

As we move into the weekend, many of us will be enjoying time with our friends and families. We at the SF SPCA will be closely monitoring the recovery of a sweet-as-pie 2 year old shepherd named Alpha. Alpha came to us with a litter of puppies, all of whom have found loving homes. But shortly thereafter, we discovered that Alpha had a congenital heart defect that would be life threatening if not corrected.
