The test of true fashion talent is time. San Francisco-based Julie Chaiken never felt the need to broadcast her eponymous Chaiken line in big, bold lights. Instead, she's had steady double decade success. Known for the perfect fit pant, Chaiken left fashion's sonar for a little while there. But the fashion world always loves a comeback.
The more I hear about bike accidents the more excited I am about stylish bike safety. Wearing a Bern helmet and bike lights are not enough. And with Burning Man less than a month away, channel your inner playa baby with some tricked out bike accessories that help ward away potential road damage.
“Today’s man is more discerning than ever, his lifestyle is his own and his style should always make its mark.” Motivational man speak by David Alfonso, the creator of hair product line Hanz de Fuko. At a time when male grooming is booming in SF and beards are aplenty, Hanz de Fuko was ahead of the game with the launch of sexy, 100% organic styling solutions five years ago.
Everyone loves Santa Barbara. Perfect weather, California coast, quaint town. But explore further. Head up the canyon 45 minutes and don't look back. Enter the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa. Founded in 1923, give yourself at least two days and two nights to lap up laid-back luxury, play the premier championship 18-hole golf course that spans the original contours of the Ojai valley, and inhale the sweet lavender-infused air.
Karl's got his finger on the Impulse. It's been several years since his collection for H&M (remember?) and it's time again Karl Lagerfeld shares his chic signature style with the masses. Come August 31, at Macy's, “Karl Lagerfeld for Impulse Only at Macy's” will unveil.
With businesses like sunshiney interiors Room Service and liquid nitrogen Smittens ice cream, Hayes Valley is poised for its heyday. It's time — it's central, small, and adorable. A book exchange/bar/cafe is the perfect new neighbor wouldn't you say?
Come September, a charmer called Two Sisters Bar and Books will open. Conceptualized by Two Sisters, operated by Big Sister, curated by Little Sister, it's currently undergoing construction. Kindle break and read what Big Sister has to share...
Shotwell is out, well, moved, Crossroads is in. Though I was a fan of Shotwell being downtown accessible, I'll take recycled fashion in exchange. Berkeley-based Crossroads nabbed the Grant Avenue space for a summer pop-up shop.
It should come as no surprise seeing as how Crossroads already had their Buying Outpost at Shotwell every Thursday. The summer shop will operate their typical buy-sell-trade business, but for downtown types in a rush, dropping off your items and returning later to collect will certainly come in handy. Designer items are especially welcome.
Quit complaining about July gloom and start watching. You have to at least appreciate the majestic beauty of fog to appreciate San Francisco. And who knew Quiksilver was a fan? In their second video installment for the women's collection, the lifestyle brand teamed up with director John Moore and artist/surfer Serena Mitnik-Miller for a dreamy inspirational ode to the Outer Sunset. What we get is a nature-infused glimpse at beautiful people in casual cool clothes while they skylark through the sleepy neighborhood. Relaxed yet?
