No time for small talk; it’s time to party.

Five Concert Tickets Worth Gifting (and Re-Gifting) This Week

We all know the greatest gift of all is a Kenny Rogers box set that includes the song “Greatest Gift of All,” featuring Dolly Parton. But the second greatest gift of all?

That’s easy.

Concert tickets for your BFFs and FMFs (that’s “family members forever,” redundancy be damned)! It’s not too late to stuff your peoples’ stockings with promises of fun and sound, if Christmas is your holiday of choice. Giveth. Receiveth. Rinceth. Washeth. Repeateth.

Best Holiday Concerts For the Seasonally Inclined

SF Symphony

We’re entirely OK with the cheesiness and predictability of the holiday concert calendar. Routine begets tradition, which begets a feeling of holiday cheer, which begets warm and fuzzy feelings, which begets egg nog, which begets mistletoe. So on and so forth.

But whatever, there’s also a healthy number of concerts that are "traditional" only insofar as much as the word "holiday" pops up on the marquee. We dug ‘em up and vetted them for your holiday approval.

Five Shows to Complement Your 'Best of 2012' List-Reading

Santigold

Say what you will about the neverending onslaught of Year-End/Best-Of lists clogging up the internets, but this is truly one of the best times of the year to be a music obsessive. Read as many ‘Best Albums of 2012’ lists as you can stand, and discover.

Start with SPIN’s, wait for Pitchfork’s, then dig a bit deeper with Gorilla vs. Bear’s. Then tell 'em why they’re wrong and make your own. Then go to these shows:

How to Spend Your Weekly Live Music Allowance

December. The month of the live music doldrums. Or at least that used to be the case. Not this year.

Five Concerts to Put on Your Radar Now

‘Tis the season for huddling up in decked local concert halls and stuffing stockings with concert tickets. And my favorite, egg nog. Grab one and meet me at one of these shows.

San Francisco's Best Concert Offerings of the Week, Thanksgiving Edition

Nas

Forgive the dorked-out shout-outs, but this week I’ll be giving thanks to the following music apps, without which I don’t know how I’d ever sustain such a life-consuming addiction: Songkick (concert-listings aggregator), Spotify (if ya don’t know about Spotify…shame), WillCall (similar to Songkick but less robot-y), KCRW (wildly influential LA radio station), Shazam (song identifier), SoundCloud (music sharing and recording app), Pandora (duh), Anchording (great for musicians who need quick reference to tablature), and yes, even iTunes (sometimes).

Five Shows This Week to Help us Celebrate World Domination

First, a few exclamation points for San Fran and our beloved World Series champion S.F. Giants: !!!!, !!!!!, !!!!

Second, major props to all the street musicians who helped us celebrate last night. You also deserve a reasonable amount of punctuation marks: !!!!!

Third, let’s keep the party going…
