One of the best local music festivals that doesn't get as much love as its counterparts in Noise Pop and Outside Lands is the Mission Creek Music & Arts Festival, a gutsy and grassroots annual happening in its 14th year that supports local gems and digs up cool new talent from all corners of the national music scene.
Pier 24, vacant since 1980, has shed its skin as an abandoned warehouse in the Port of San Francisco and transformed into a massive temple of Modernist and contemporary photography (just check out their impressive list of artists). We can thank the Pilara Foundation, an organization that provides SF Art Institute students with direct access to renowned photographers, for this new outpost of high art.
The founders of Chrome bags, have taken their bag connoisseurship to the next level by throwing open the doors of Mission Workshop, a new messenger bag studio (jackets to come) located in the Mission, naturally, right off 16th Street between Mission and Valencia. These bags are weatherproof, roomy and manufactured in Colorado, but the best thing about them is they're the kind you can beat up and use the hell out of.
The Big Easy is prime cocktail territory - they even have a museum dedicated to them. Drinks are rightfully consumed there morning, noon and night, including classics like the Sazerac (pictured here) and the Ramos Gin Fizz, and up-and-comers like the Hand Grenade and the Hurricane. If you can't make it to NOLA anytime soon, you can still enjoy their drinks.
